It is the perfect coffee table size and height, … Read more A 19th-Century British Colonial Anglo-Indian solid teak and iron bound trunk. It is the perfect coffee table size and height, classically designed but with modern clean lines. It is large, measuring 55" length x 36" width and has ample storage inside. It retains the original patina and surface. The hinged top has two forged iron hasps that would have been pinned close with an iron or steel pin. When open, a single chain holds the lid, preventing it from falling back. There is a single forged handle on either side of the box.

The top of the trunk is quite level as shown with the wine glasses. Of course, a pretty serving tray could be placed on the top as well.

These wonderful antique trunks were used to move goods on the 'Grand Trunk Road' in India during the 19th-Century British Colonial period. During the hot summer months, the British colonial government moved to the cooler hill stations at the foothills of the Himalayas.
