A striking original color woodcut by acclaimed American Neo-Expressionist artist Louisa Chase (1951–2016). Titled Dusk, this 1982 print is signed by the artist and inscribed with the title, date, and edition number 9/20 in the lower margin.
This rare work is from the same edition as Dawn, a companion print represented in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art, underscoring the significance of this series within Chase’s celebrated printmaking practice.
Executed with Chase’s signature bold forms and expressive use of color, Dusk embodies the energetic visual language that established her as one of the leading voices of the American Neo-Expressionist movement during the late twentieth century.

About the Artist
Louisa Lizbeth Chase (1951–2016) was an influential American painter and printmaker associated with the Neo-Expressionist movement. Born in Panama City, Panama, and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, she earned a BFA in Printmaking from Syracuse University in 1973 and an MFA from the Yale School of Art in 1975.
Soon after graduating from Yale, Chase debuted her work at the renowned alternative gallery Artists Space in New York. She later taught at both the Rhode Island School of Design and the School of Visual Arts and was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant.
Chase represented the United States at the 1984 Venice Biennale, and her work has been exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her paintings and prints are included in the collections of major institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Brooklyn Museum, the New Museum, and the RISD Museum, among many others.
