Signed lower right, 'Cabaniss' for Larry Cabaniss (American-Italian, 1928-2008) and painted circa 1975; additionally signed, verso, 'Cabaniss'.
Born in Akron, Ohio, in 1928, Larry Cabaniss served in the U.S. Army as part of the occupation forces in Japan. While there, he studied art under Fujitso and, after his return to the United States, attended the Pratt Institute. In the 1950's, he continued his studies in Paris. He then moved to Rome where he lived for the remainder of his life, making only occasional trips back to exhibit his works in the United States, including at the Art Institute of Chicago's 64th Annual American Exhibition (1961). We are pleased to offer this sensitively drawn study of a mother and child from the artist's Rome period.
