Created in Germany during the first quarter of the 20th century, this horizontal oil on panel painting showcases a buck and a doe depicted in their natural habitat, in the thickness of the woods. The buck is resting behind bushes on the right while the doe grazes peacefully on the grass. The artist played with the light and shadows to compose his piece, a strong diagonal dividing the space carefully. Bert Fricke Wolfenbuttel was a hunting painter known for its representations of wild animals. He trained at the Braunschweig and Hanover art schools and was active at the beginning of the last century.
