Gorgeous vintage clip paperweight in leather and steel in the shape of a marine link. A wonderful piece produced by the historic leather brand Franzi in the 1970s in Italy. A beautiful spring clip in the shape of a marine link mounted on a leather base signed Franzi Italy. Dimensions in cm: Height 4 Width 16 Depth 10 The history of the Franzi brand began in 1840, when Rocco Franzi settled in Milan, where he set up a small business specializing in the creation of bags and suitcases, near the Duomo. The years of the first Industrial revolution in Europe saw the emergence of the bourgeoisie and an important development of travel, both for tourism and for work. In the same years, the railway network was strengthened and trips on transatlantic liners multiplied, contributing to an increase in the demand for trunks and suitcases. In 1864, Felice Franzi, Rocco's son, officially founded the Valigeria Franzi in Via Manzoni, which set out to guarantee a high level of quality of materials, refined craftsmanship and solid structures to withstand long journeys. The rapid growth of the business pushes Felice to open a real factory, not only for the production of suitcases and trunks, but for all kinds of leather goods. In order to study new manufacturing criteria, Felice invests in cutting-edge machinery and specialized manpower: master leather craftsmen are hired from Austria and France to train local craftsmen and achieve ever higher quality standards. Among others, Guccio Gucci, founder of the brand of the same name, will learn how to select, dye and package fine leathers right at the Franzi factory. It will be Guccio himself who will affix the wording "Guccio Gucci (former employee of Franzi luggage)" on the sign of his first shop in Florence. This piece has an attribution mark,
