Austrian huge ceramics vase 'four seasons' deriving from keramos / vienna manufactory, designed by susi singer (1895 - 1965) made circa 1925
excellently manufactured ceramics vase of most interesting shape: the bellied vase of tapering type stands on round foot. Its outer wall is decorated in relief technique with four female semi-nude figurines being symbol of four seasons: -- a woman holding burning torch, accompanied by owl (winter) -- a woman balancing a heart in left raised hand, accompanied by jumping dog / additionally, there are some flowers visible (spring) -- a woman accompanied by a bird living near water, most probably a heron (summer) -- a woman accompanied by a deer, below of it there are wine grapes visible (fall / autumn) hallmarked by keramos manufactory (made in austria) measures: height: 54.0 cm (= circa 21.6 inches) bibliography: uta m. susi singer (1895 - 1965) was an austrian ceramics artist who lived as from the year 1937 in usa. - after having studied at school of fine arts for women and girls in vienna (she had been taught by tina blau, adolf boehm and otto friedmann) susi singer became member of wiener werkstaette (she was active there in period from 1917 until 1925). In the year 1922 she became better known in public since the german journal 'deutsche kunst und dekoration' published a selection of singer's sculptured work for the first time. Susi singer received a highly esteemed award in 1925 by receipt of the golden medal of 'exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes' of paris. She founded her own manufactory at gruenbach am schneeberg (lower austria) in the same year (1925). This piece has an attribution mark,
