A large and colorful hand painted gourd shaped Kutani vase from the 1920s that was once used as a lamp base.
The heavy porcelain was molded in the shape of an octagonal-sided gourd vase. The vase is decorated with designs of birds in trees, craggy mountains, and children playing. These panels are interrupted with solid green panels showing mon elements. The glazes are thick with raised edges. It has an octagonal unglazed foot that shows an iron red firing line. The base is glazed in white.
A square green enameled mark on the base which was cut out when lamped. There is an old paper label piece stuck on the base.
