As a cultural artefact, the circus holds various symbolic meanings over time, challenging our beliefs while inspiring wonder.
In this tribute to Fernand Leger and his 50s Circus series, Lrisé has created a colourful acrylic painting on canvas resembling a collage but without using cut-out pieces. Instead, it presents simple geometric shapes such as squares, triangles, circles, trapezoids, ovals, and ellipses painted in bold contrasts of curves and straight lines - with dark and thick outlines - giving this aerial circus woman the appearance of a Pinocchio or a wooden dummy used for figure drawing.
