It was under the second empire, at the initiative of Napoleon III, that the first French universal exhibition was organized on the site that would become traditional Parisian universal exhibitions: the Champs de Mars. This exhibition shows the progress in terms of industrialization. Built in 1853, the Palais de l'Industrie, overlooking Avenue des Champs-Elys'es, was built to house the Universal Exhibition of Products of Agriculture, Industry and Fine Arts. It was realized by the architects by Viel and Desjardins using iron and brick covered with stone.
