This bowl brings the mind the work of the Muller lighting company; it has that “look.”

This lighting bowl is equipped with one new American standard-based socket; use any size bulb you want, no problem. I've reproduced the canopy from the best one – the most visually compelling, to my eye -- I ever dragged, kicking and screaming, out of La Belle France. It's solid cast bronze, plated with a brushed nickel finish, then patinated to look fittingly antique (the glass bowl is from the 1920s). The squared tubing (solid brass) likewise has been custom-configured and plated in brushed nickel -- “jewelry for the home.”

The glass bowl is made of clear, colorless glass, which was frosted after it was made and as a result appears white. Those clever French, they often highlighted various design elements by leaving them clear (non-frosted), adding to the sensational visual impact of the bowl. As I’ve used an incandescent lamp in the photos, there is possibly a slight warmth to the bowl which, depending on what kind of bulb you use, probably won’t be there at all in your home. On the other hand, if you put this fixture on a dimmer (presuming you’re using an incandescent bulb), and dim it way down at night, the bowl will be take on a very warm quality and appear like a distant planet hovering above your room or table.
