Signed lower right, 'Edmond Woods' (American, 1905-1990) and painted circa 1975.
Born in Ogden, Edmond Woods first studied under LeConte Stewart at the University of Utah. After moving to San Diego in 1926, Woods studied under Maurice Braun and then, moving to Los Angeles, continued his studies at both the Otis Art Institute and the Chouinard Art Institute.
Woods was a member of the La Jolla Art Association, San Diego Artist's Guild, the 67Riverside Art Association, National City Art Association, and the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs. He exhibited widely and with success and, over the course of a long career, was the recipient of numerous medals, prizes and juried awards. A student of the Southwest and of Native American cultures, he is well-known for his portrayals of Navajo Indian children and for his California, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado landscapes and harbor scenes. Edmond Wood's works are held in private and public collections including the permanent collection of the Ford Motor Company.
