Patrice Allard, a French artist born in 1945, is renowned for his paintings and tapestries.
He studied under and worked as a collaborator with Victor Vasarely from 1967 to 1980. Allard's experimentation with kinetic tapestries and Optical textile art flourished during the 1970s.
This artwork presented today - a cubist-inspired horse - is a perfect opportunity to appreciate Allard's mastery.
It is one of the early figurative embroidered works he has performed, depicting the horse's body not mimetically, but using different geometric shapes - sets without perspective - multiplying the subject's angles of vision on a flat surface. Appears curves in dialogue with simple pointed shapes borrowed not from the reality of vision but from the reality of conception.
Allard's expertise in assembling the pieces creates the illusion of movement and reinforces the horse's robust, elegant, powerful, and proud features intensified by a work of warm hues around brown, yellow and orange.
It sits in a patinated gold frame.
Textile art, such as tapestries, has long been valued for its ability to promote reflection and tranquilly, uplifting the soul and enhancing personal spaces. As a result, it has remained a favourite among art enthusiasts for centuries.
