When the top is lifted, it also releases the fall front that reveals a shelved interior for folios. The canted and paneled sides are all crotch mahogany that is beautifully sun-faded with age, the entire case resting on intricately-carved scrolled feet. The silk cushion has some fading and minor soiling but is usable as is; also minor dings and scratches one would expect in a piece dating to the early 19th century.
