A Very Fine Philadelphia Mahogany Chippendale Diminutive 4 Drawer Chest of Drawers, Circa 1760's

Mahogany 4 drawer chest, with poplar, pine, and yellow pine secondary woods. A lip moulded single board top, over 4 lip moulded graduated drawers. an applied ogee moulding with applied ogee bracket feet. Nicely figured mahogany drawer fronts. Dust boards between the drawers. Fluted quarter columns flank the drawers on both sides.
At a 34 3/4" case width, this chest sets itself apart from many other chests of drawers from the same period. The diminutive stature, it only make this chest more desirable. Originally this was probably used as a "Bachelors Chest". The stands a a whopping 31 1/2" tall. just a great size. Perfect for a hallway or entrance.
The single board applied top is spectacular 36" by 20" top, one single piece of 3/4" thick mahogany. Nicely figured grain on the top board.
Solid Mahogany, poplar drawer linings, cedar drawer bottoms, pine/yellow pine case elements on the interior of the case. Rosehead hand wrought nails throughout.
This Chest is a very eye appealing chest, and structurally is a tank. Heavy, and very well built, and ready for service for the next 300 years!!
Size: 36" wide overall, 20 1/4" deep, 31 1/2" tall. 34 3/4" case width.
Condition: Refinished in the past 60 or so years. Restorations to the feet, where as most glue blocks have been replaced, and lower portions of the feet are restored. Several drawer lips have been patched/repaired. The brasses are replacements, in the original holes covering up old, extra holes. Old shrinkage cracks in the side of the case, and shrinkage splits on the drawer fronts are consistent with age, and use. Minor dings, scuffs, scratches associated with 260++ years of use.
