Vintage Home is pleased to present this set of ten Thonet German Designed Dining Chairs. Michael Thonet perfected how to bend hardwoods using hot steam which also included bending wood slats glued together. He won a Gold Medal at the 1867 World Expo in Paris for his craft. The process ushered in mass production of furniture. Thonet had plants in Germany and Austria. In the 1940s the company purchased several American furniture factories but they did not change the name to Thonet Industries until 1969. Thonet Industries sold both furniture produced in the United States at their factories and distributed items that were produced at their plants in Germany. These chairs from the 1970s were brought in from Germany. They feature the glued and bent technology and modern sleek lines. The set of 10 has been newly re-upholstered with a light blue linen fabric with floral tree branches in grey, white and mustard
