With an … Read more A Korean ceramic celadon bottle vase with inlay design from Goryeo Dynasty (918 to 1392AD) circa 12th century. With an elongated neck that continues down to the pear-shape body in smooth and elegant curve, and an applied lug on one side of the neck, made for attaching a small lid, this vessel was traditionally used to store wine. The surface ornamentation was achieved by slip-inlays and incision, typical decorative techniques used in the 12th century. Around the shoulder, there is a circumventing white inlaid band of youi-design. The front and back showcases the main design, two three-head white chrysanthemum sprays with black leaves. The inlay work is quite refined and detailed. Above the short foot ring, there is a band of incise double-lotus motif. The base retains some residues of brown slip. The overall semi-opaque glaze has a lustrous quality in pale blue-greenish color and is covered in fine crackle. There is a kiln crack toward the bottom as shown, which add a touch of charm to the piece.
