Emanating mythical elements with incredible detail and texture, this hand knotted wool antique Chinese Ningxia bench runner is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The dragon design and symbolic colorway woven into this piece work together creating a truly unique look. This Chinese bench runner features six medation squares and most likely was used to cover benches in a Chinese monastery. This is one single piece; however, they are often cut into individual squares and used as meditation mats. Each square depicts a five claw dragon enclosed with a Greek T-meander border. Dragons typically with five claws on each foot symbolized the emperor in many Chinese dynasties. Aside from the rich cultural symbolism, this piece is beautifully rendered in a marvelous color palette.
Whether placed on the floor or hung on the wall as artwork, this antique Chinese textile is perfect for a hallway, long entry or foyer, corridor, home office, study, studio, den, bedroom, living room, dining room, home library, mudroom, gameroom, billiards room, and even a hotel lobby. Orders where Free Local Pickup or Seller Managed Local Delivery were selected:
- Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
- Once you have taken possession of the item, all sales are final
