This captivating antique elephant folio size chromolithograph (each color laid in with a separate lithographic stone) by Lance Thackeray (1869-1916 England) depicts four people in evening attire playing bridge. The lithograph is pencil signed and signed in the plate. Surrounding the main image are vignettes of playing cards showing the hands of the four players, the young couple, the clergyman and the old gentleman. Titled "Bridge" and sub-titled "Ruffing A Black Suit". Housed in the original wood frame. Marked along the top edge ‘Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1904 by The Fine Art Society Ltd. in the Office of the Librarian of Congress, Washington. London Published 1904 by The Fine Art Society, 148, New Bond Street, Copyright Registered’.
Lance Thackeray (1869 – 1916), born in Darlington, England was a listed English illustrator known for his humorous sporting illustrations and was a founding member of the London Sketch Club.
