This marvelous tea caddy spoon is created in gorgeous German Hanau silver and the subject is a man and woman … Read more This marvelous tea caddy spoon is created in gorgeous German Hanau silver and the subject is a man and woman dancing, a dog following along and a sweet cherub at the top of the spoon, watching the merriment. There is a hook on the back of the spoon, used to lean against the tea caddy without falling in. I have also been told that this type of spoon was used to take seeds out of punch and was hung on the rim for that purpose. It may also be used to serve sauce or gravy. The hallmarks on the back of the spoon: "Germany" with individual stamps of what appears to be a chalice, a flower and a bird. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Length from end to end=5-1/4 inches, Spoon bowl length=3 inches, Width at widest=2 inches. This magnificent rococo style spoon has been well cared for, gently used and is in excellent condition without dents or repairs. There is some light scratching on the back of the handle, which come from testing for silver content and are only visible with a loop. Hanau is a city in Germany and from the mid-19th century to early 20th century, their silversmiths were known to create beautiful, rococo style items that were similar in design to those created in France in the 16th and 17th centuries.
