This marble and cloisonné cross with holy water recipient was created in France, circa 1880. The antique piece has beautiful, intricate cloisonné work with enamel, stone and bronze and a gleaming green, gray marble base. The religious object is in excellent condition and has sturdy brass backing for easy hanging.
Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metal or marble objects. In this technique, enamel, glass, or gemstones are separated by strips of flattened wire placed edgeways on a metal backing.
