The Igbo people have numerous men’s dancing societies for which masks with a wide range of symbolism are worn. Among the Igbo a masquerader is known as mmanwu, however masked dancers will have other names within local Igbo groups. Masks appear to initiate young boys into adult status and adult males into higher levels and status in the men’s society. Beautifully carved masks will dance to honor the person through masks that represent the beauty of young girls as spirit maidens. The costumes worn with the masks are colorful made up of different colored cloth appliques and detailed design patterns.

The Chairish Buyer Guarantee ensures that you have complete peace of mind when

- Prior to shipping or local pickup, buyers may cancel an order for any reason, with the exception of some Made-to-Order items, where supplies have been purchased or work begun on the item.

- Chairish Express In-Home deliveries are currently only offered for international cross-border shipments.

- Deliveries can take anywhere from 6 to 9 weeks to be delivered.
- Chairish Freight Delivery
- Delivered in a crate, to your front door.

- Chairish Freight deliveries can take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.

- Chairish In-Home Delivery
