A one of a kind piece, dated from C.1878-1910; is this French, Art Nouveau, 2-Piece breakfront, a timeless, and monumental example of an alluringly piece of exquisite and exceptional craftsmanship. This stunning, ornate, hand-carved, walnut breakfront, with all the components the Art Nouveau period is associated with; from the floral fauna, to outdoor natural elements, such as acorns, walnuts, foliage, and iris flowers, adjacent and on between drawers. and especially prominent in the delineated, fronts support stretchers, adjacent to one another, to center of breakfront, as well as and in addition to, door fronts and side panels with accentuated, raised relief, delineated carvings, from the top vaulted, arched top, with thick, carvings, to the carved pineapple finial, at the center top, as well as to the bottom drawer fronts, sides, and feet, including a scalloped apron front to base footboard area. There is an original brass key, double locking mechanism, for all drawers, as well as to the 5 doors, consisting of 3 upper doors, and 2 lower doors, also lockable, with the same key. There are 3 interior shelves, across the interior, of upper section of server, as image indicates, while the lower breakfront interior, having one shelf encompassing the span of the interior, all the way across. Brass hardware, throughout, forged into differing floral motifs, with pull handles, shaped like flowers, and brass brackets to lower and upper doors, as last image shows, hinges, pulls, and hardware up close. This breakfront piece has all dowel joinery, and comes apart in 6 multiple pieces for packing/shipping, white glove "ONLY". As we stated, this piece has all the bells and whistles of vast crafted, immense design details, within the Art Nouveau period, encompassing natural outdoor elements, synonymous to the Art Nouveau period, from the acorn and pineapples, filigree, twine or branch motif carvings, accomplished in a sinuously curled, or curved designs, with feminine-like curvature, attributes to the linear relief details, as well as motif to the parallel stretcher supports on opposing sides. Hardware throughout is brass, floral hand forged pulls, while hinges have a combination of brass, and metal. A vaulted center top, as well as with textured glass, center panel, original to piece. This item has been owned since c1973, by a famous North American artist, a fellow artist and peer of Wendell Castle's, with past representation within NYC, in a beloved, well known and respected gallery, having under their umbrella/auspices of representing the world renown sculptor Chamberlain, whose work encompasses portions of cars, and currently the representation of artist and painter, Wayne Thiebaud, as well as the Estate of Joseph Cornell, beyond being an accomplished, illustrator in her own right, as well as having been published in numerous, who's who of publications, from Playboy to Psychology today, and inclusive within the Society of Illustrators and American Illustration, as well as featured in many museums throughout the world, known for her hyper Super Realism, with an exquisite eye for the surreal and trompe l'oeil, but ensconced within, the early genre period, within the Pop Art Movement of the 60s-70s, with current or upcoming inclusive group exhibitions in North America, until then, currently, and lovingly cared for. Provenance and Maker's label is on the backside, but due to girth, unable to move this item, to see the label/name, i.e. provenance. IF we are able in due course within this live listing, we will update, and make notation to that effect. Purchased in France. Made in France.
Some of the variation in wood color, is due to the lighting, blame it on the northern lights, as one has to make do with the opportunity lending itself in the photograph process in regards to the natural light. Some minor scratches, indicative to the period, and use, and normal wear, but in excellent condition.
Any questions please don't hesitate to ask, as this item is a consigned item, and would require back and forth clarification, if we have not already mentioned or answered all the elements to this piece. Thank you.
