An exceptional late 19th-century French aneroid barometer featuring a captivating "skeleton" dial that reveals the intricate mechanical heart of the instrument. Housed in a robust, circular carved oak frame with a rich tobacco patina, this piece exemplifies the marriage of scientific precision and Victorian-era decorative arts.
The parchment-style dial is finished with elegant Gothic script indicating weather conditions (Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, Very Dry) and a dual scale in both inches and centimeters. The center is open to showcase the polished brass movement, featuring the "LG" maker's mark with a divider/compass symbol. The thick, beveled glass crystal is set within a heavy brass bezel, adding a sense of depth and luxury to the wall-mounted display.
Design: Open-face "Holosteric" movement allowing for a clear view of the internal mechanics.
Material: Solid carved wood (likely Oak or Walnut), brass bezel, and beveled glass.
Markings: Stamped with the "LG" hallmark and divider symbol; dial marked "Aneroid Barometer."
Condition: Good vintage condition. The wooden case retains a deep, lustrous finish. The brass shows a natural aged patina. Mechanical movement appears intact (standard calibration via the rear screw may be required after shipping). Cracks on the bezel (hence the reduced price).
