The cast iron base, with its paw feet and garland decoration, seems out of the Victorian era. It was "modernized" with the addition of the celluloid insert (which has a small crack) and the bold and daring ziggurats racing up the shaft and appearing again on the finial. The ziggurats are solid brass with a lovely free-form acid finish in gold tones.

This type of contradiction of styles places the lamp in the "transitional" time frame when tastes were shifting.

The lamp stands 20 1/4 inches high to the top of the finial, and the base measures about 9 by 7. The paper shade, which is new, measures 13 across the bottom. Use any wattage bulbs you care to.

Rewired entirely, with rayon-covered cord evocative of the antique era. See less
