The history of Limoges Porcelaine dates back to the 18th Century, France. The discovery of an essential ingredient, kaolin clay, changed the course of history for Castel, France. This essential ingredient could be fired at extremely high temperatures, which resulted in a luminous, high sheen finish that became synonymous with upper echelon quality.
This resulted in the opening of many small production porcelaine factories in the surrounding areas. The course changing event was the purchase of one of these small production factories by King Louis XIV of France to make Porcelaine wares for his royal court, thus catapulting Limoges acclaim.
