An Antique Japanese Ko-Kutani porcelain serving bowl in a raised spherical form with finial, elaborately decorated, featuring hand-painted efflorescent foliages, charming finches, and scenes of the good life in the Meiji era, and in no less than eight lavishly painted panels, intersecting with intricate traditional motifs and geometric patterns, opulently decorated in gaudy enamels and gold brocade, revolving around the 16-pointed scalloped rims over a gorgeous crimson red background. The painting's breathtaking intricacy reflects the artist's concentration and skill; equally impressive are the potter's superb techniques that rendered the fine Kutani bowl. Signed in Kanji script in red: Kutani Made 九谷造. Japanese ceramic history has it that Kutani Shoza reestablished Kutani porcelain in late Edo. The serving bowl is attributed to the Meiji era. See less
