SUPER RARE! This is a circa 1885 finely detailed, antique, late Victorian cast iron and tiled combination fireplace, with a highly decorative domed canopy hood. I believe that the tiles, although damaged and some missing, are original. The cast decorations around the piece are leafy vines, matching the hood with a very ornate swirl pattern of flowers and vines, and a central medallion design. This is such a great piece. It needs love and care, and if you wish, a restoration…although, I would keep as much of the ‘old look’ as possible…but that is my style!
It measures 38 x 38 and is about 7” deep. The tiles are 6” wide. The opening is 22” high by 16” wide. It is very, very heavy yet sturdy for transport.
When I had it, I made a wood surround and put a metal back on the wall (behind my mantle) and a tile base and then put candles in it…it was a showpiece and I got so many compliments.
*There are some numbers on the back but I was unable to find any corresponding information.
