Created in China during the Qing Dynasty period in the 19th century, this treasure chest showcases a red lacquer perfectly complimenting its clean and elegant lines. The chest features a rectangular domed lid opening thanks to a traditional brass medallion lock to reveal a brown interior offering convenient storage opportunities. The façade showcases gilded calligraphy referring to happiness and longevity. This treasure chest was therefore possibly a wedding gift, offered as part of the dowry. The façade's lower section presents a single drawer with ornate brass pull while the sides comprise of C-scroll handles allowing the piece to be moved more easily. The ensemble is raised on a conforming plinth.
