Wonderful mid-century set of spherical plastic make-up and storage boxes. Makio Hasuike designed this set during the 1970s, as a part of the Roberta collection, and produced Gedy it. The set is composed of a stunning rare vintage make-up box with a mirror inside, divided into compartments of different sized, and a smaller storage box, made of a cylindrical bottom and half-spherical top. The make-up box is in very good condition with minimal signs of use. This set is ideal for a midcentury bedroom or a space-age studio desk.
Makio Hasuike is recognized as a prominent representative in the international scenario of product design and is considered a relevant figure in the Italian culture of design. His work is far from being considered a mere auto-celebrating mannerism expression and instead search for innovation through the ability to look beyond and ahead leading to answers to current and future desires. In 2016 he received the prestigious Compasso D’Oro Lifetime Achievement Award, thanks to his extensive and relevant experience and the recognized contribution as a forerunner of the complex relationship between project and self-production. Makio Hasuike graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1962. He began his professional experience in Japan where he worked for a year as a designer at Seiko, designing a series of watches for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964. Since 1963 in Italy, he founded his studio in Milan in 1968, one of the first Industrial Design studies in Italy. In 1982 he undertook an experimental project by conceiving and putting on the market a series of innovative products, thus the MH Way design company was born. In over fifty years of activity it has developed numerous projects in heterogeneous sectors: from technological and precision tools to accessories and tools for work and leisure, from small and large appliances to furnishings and objects. He is a member of the Founding Committee of the Strategic Design Master of the Politecnico di Milano and has taught at the Faculty of Industrial Design of the Politecnico di Milano, Domus Academy and Istituto Raffles Milano.
