This antique Quimper Jug was produced in Quimper France, circa 19th Century, and is signed “PB” on the bottom.

Quimper is a town in Brittany, North West France. The town has long been famous for producing faience – tin-glazed pottery. Faience is not peculiar to Quimper, indeed it is made in various places throughout Europe, but the Quimper faience is quite distinctive. Pottery has been made in Quimper for a very long time, but the faience that we recognize as Quimper has been produced since the late 17th century.

Item condition: Some chips out of them rim and on the base. Minor scratching. Some crazing. The fissures in the surface glaze occurred during the firing process and are original to the jug. Age weathered surfaces. See photos for complete assessment.
