This tapestry was originally designed and woven by William Morris in 1879, and was the first tapestry he produced, being made entirely by himself. From studying an old French Arts and Crafts manual, Morris taught himself the technique of weaving, and spent many hours weaving this first experimental tapestry by hand in his bedroom at Kelmscott House in Hammersmith, London. Morris thereafter taught his workmen the technique, and is thereby attributed with reviving the craft of tapestry-weaving in England during the last quarter of the 19th century. William Morris (1834-1896) is well-known as the founder of the firm of Morris & Company, whose workshops became established at Merton Abbey in Surrey. The original tapestry may be seen at Kelmscott Manor in Oxfordshire, the one-time family home of Morris.
This beautiful tapestry is woven on a jacquard loom by skilled weavers, keeping alive the centuries old tradition of tapestry manufacturing from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.
Composition: 95% cotton, 5% polyester

- Upon inspection, If you decide not to move forward with the purchase, you or your agent must refuse the item at the time of pickup/delivery from the seller
- Once you have taken possession of the item, all sales are final

Cancellations

- Deliveries can take anywhere from 6 to 9 weeks to be delivered.
- Chairish Freight Delivery
- Delivered in a crate, to your front door.
