There's a lot to unfold here. The magic of this piece is that it's carved from one piece of teak wood. Each ring of the chain is paired together, implying that it's known as a West African wedding chain. The heads on these are often used as masks, and are carved out to fit the face. This piece is also a solid piece of wood, with no room for a face behind it. Now is where it gets interesting. The back of the head has a small hole near the top center, implying that it can be hung on a wall. Or door. And THIS makes sense because at the bottom of the chain there is a somewhat triangular link, which seems to me is a means to knock on a door from the hanging chain. And the head also appears to be a devil more than a tribal figure, so we may just have to call it a "devil door knocker".
