That red is the whole story. A signed mid-century French still life of summer poppies in a white porcelain vase, oil on board, c.1960, in its original period frame. Saturated reds and warm ochre, the cool white of the vase, a loose painterly ground, strong enough to pull you across a street. The signature reads Olga Nowieka, and the colors have not moved in sixty years.

The brushwork is the thing. Textured, confident and unfussy, the poppies are not arranged for approval.

Condition: lovingly used, with minor age-consistent wear. Colors vivid and unfaded. Original period frame. Ready to hang.
