Although I am not certain of the exact age or provenance of this exquisite working basket, it was likely used for gathering flowers, herbs and vegetables -- either from a home garden or an obliging field.

The wood framing on the bottom is designed to protect the integrity of the basket and to keep it steady while in use. Just love the unusual profile of this basket with its wide base, graceful sloping rim, and soft aged patina.
