This is a very sleek, understated and austere Teak wood tray with a removable white plastic inlay created in the … Read more This is a very sleek, understated and austere Teak wood tray with a removable white plastic inlay created in the 1960s by the award winning designer, Yki Nummi (1925-1984) for Sanka's collection of household accessories.

Nummi was born in China to a missionary family and after graduating from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland was hired as an in-house designer for Orno, mostly creating lamps and light fixtures that were most often made of plastic, yet sometimes combining Teak or Rosewood. He also made household items at Sanka such as trays and bowls, usually combining acrylic or molded plastic with the same woods mentioned. And from 1958 to 1974 he also worked at the Tikkurila paint factory specialising in color development. His most famous products are the timeless icons Modern Art table lamp and Skyflier pendant lamp, and he won the gold medals at the Milan Triennial in both 1954 and 1957.

The white plastic inlay tray measures 12.5" x 4" x 1.25", and the Teak wood tray measures 14.25" (from tip of handles on each end) x 5" x 1.375". As an elegant and refined statement piece, it makes a lovely tray for displaying ephemera or jewelry on a dresser or counter.
