Pull back on the top handle with automatically open not only the top, but also slides the drawer open on bottom. Push on the bottom drawer and it will automatically close the top.
The drawer has compartments including a hole for an inkwell, a trough for sand, two side spaces, and a striker strip for lighting matches. There is a lock but no key.
