Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a black, gray and gold silk brocade in … Read more Chinese landscape scroll, freely drawn colored inks on heavy paper, mounted on a black, gray and gold silk brocade in a dragon and fenghunag, medallions pattern, signed, with a poem in Caoshu script and with numerous red seal marks in various sizes and shapes scattered about the image. The image size is 26" wide x 53" high. With a satiny, dark copper, silk kakio and makio at the top and rosewood jikusaki at the bottom. The scroll cover is a light gold raw silk. Circa early 20th century, no later than mid century.

At the left foreground, a river, fed by a small waterfall on the right, flows through rocky banks covered in gnarled pines, trees and bushes. At the left a fisherman sits on a small wharf near some mountain huts nestled in the trees. A horse and rider near a small footbridge can be seen at center right. Massive forested palisades continue to rise at mid-ground, with a viewing hut on the left and a temple on the right. Ever higher and massive cloud-like mountains soar into the heavens and fade into the distance in traditional Chinese aerial perspective. See less
