Exquisitely hand painted seashore scene with two small mooring sail ships and people carrying loads ashore; one can come up with an intriguing story while looking at it
Reticulated rim resembling lace border, with golden highlights
Made by Copeland, a succession to the well known 18th c. firm of Spode, Staffordshire
Copeland, an Alderman of the City of London and Lord Mayor, continued the old Spode works in the heart of Stoke and produced a wonderful range of fine quality decorative porcelain and earthenware.
Clearly marked at the bottom with impressed word "COPELAND" in curved form without a crown above, used between 1850-1867 (reference: the potteries org website)
There is also a hand drawn cipher, the artist's signature most likely
