A German Expressionist he studied at the Royal Art School in Erfurt under Eduard von Hagen & Hans Semper, continued his studies at the Berlin Academy, he was educated by Max Koch and Franz Skarbina. Followed by study trips to Italy, Holland, Spain, England and Paris, he was also involved with the Paris Impressionist movement.
