Pear-shaped porcelain vase decorated with stylized bats from the late Ming (1580-1644)/early Qing dynasty. The shape is taken from an original design that first appeared in the Yuan (1300-1368) era.
The vase is painted in panels of bats and flowers separated by small panels of lines and dots. It has a narrow foot with a bit of remaining kiln grit which is indicative of provincial wares made at Jingdezhen during this period. It was not intended for export. The tone of the cobalt blue does coincide with late Ming but the shape indicates it may have been made in the early Qing dynasty (c.1644-1670)
The vase with its narrow foot, bit of kiln grit etc. are found most often on provincially made porcelains from Jingdezhen intended for the domestic mainland market. The tone of the cobalt can of course hint at a late Ming perhaps Wanli origin, however the pot overall points to the later period.
Stands approximately 6" (15cm) in height. In good condition with a few frits at the base not visible o display. This is very typical in all such pieces made during this period.
