The exhibition poster print is published by The Centre Georges Pompidou, Musee National D'Art Moderne Paris, printed in France in 1979 by Imprimerie Vanderperre in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition. It features a Modernist artwork image originally created by Herbin in 1937, copyright Centre Georges Pompidou, MNAM 1979.

Auguste Herbin ( 1882 - 1960 ) The French born Modernist artist is best known for his Cubist and Abstract painting compositions of strong colorful geometric forms. He was the co-founder of the groups Abstract-Creation and Salon des Realities Nouvelles which promoted non figurative Abstract Art in The Mid 20th Century in Paris. In 1942 he created his " Alphabet Plastique ", a concept of relating color, shape, music notes, and letters. These forms became the language of his paintings, which he continued to create until his death in 1960. Art works by Herbin are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.

In 1979 The Centre Pompidou presented an exhibition of the artworks originally created for the " 1937 International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques ". These mural paintings were intended for the decoration of the exhibition pavilions.

The unprecedented economic crisis in the 1930's had particularly affected artists. They attempted to react by redefining their social role and organizing themselves in groups with defined objectives. These mural artworks rejected the concept of easel painting in an effort to create an artistic harmonization of the environment. This search for harmony gave birth to an era of aesthetic industrialism in urban planning, architecture, and the visual arts. The references to the machine as a modern object is a collective theme in the artwork compositions of Fernand Leger, Auguste Herbin, and Sonia Delaunay among others from this period and important exhibition.

The rare out of print framed Paris exhibition poster measures 20" W X 28" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modernist polished black finish recessed detail metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.

It is in excellent condition. The poster print is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and light surface wear in the lower bottom left margin border area. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
