This very rare textile fabric tapestry marked the rebirth of the Norwegian textile industry after World War II. The pattern made and released in 1953 was presented in various trade and design shows across the world with gleaming success. There is an printed reference of this design in
the Norwegian magazine Bonytt nr. 2, 1957. The accomplished Norwegian designer Bjorn Engo teamed with the Sandvika textile factory from Norway. Engo's design, called Polynesia, was handprinted in the Sandvika Veveri mill on cotton. It's design is pure midcentury modern esthetic with the expected Scandinavian twist. This would be a very nice wall decoration or perhaps a curtain. The size allows for it to be stand out piece on its own at 7 x 4 feet. Locating another one of these would be next to impossible. They are very rare and very few collectors managed to get their hands on some of it. The National Museum in Oslo, Norway(Nasjonal Museet) has it in their permanent collection. You can check their archives on their website where you can find a reference to this design. The black and white photo I've attached because it is an excellent piece of documentation from the 1950's.
