This antique Korean scholars chest is made from a Zelkova that has so many impressive grain patterns resembling coiled dragons that the Korean craftsmen named the wood “Dragon Wood”. This wood was the highest prized wood in both Korea and Japan as the dragon signifies a heavenly king. Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897).
Scrolled feet and brass hardware compliment this piece. All of the drawers and the cabinet are lined with ancient calligraphy paper. Certificate of authenticity from the location in Korea is included.
