A rare early 18th century George I / George II period (ca. 1720-1740) chest of drawers of refined proportions, with a two over three drawer format. Each drawer is enlivened by wide lighter wood stringing. The case rests on burn feet. The overall effect is of elegant rusticity, signs of age are found throughout, with some degree of typical distress, separations and worming to the wood, however with a nice French polished/waxed finish. Pine drawer linings and sides. Hardware and feet are later, but of appropriate form. The top is highly figured walnut and quite attractive with a very good French polished finish, and is also later. Comes with key, locks are in working condition. Drawers function smoothly.
