This hand-knotted wool Haji Khalili Distressed antique Persian Tabriz rug features a series off our serrated hexagonal medallions centered on an abrashed field. The medallions and spandrels all contain a repeated small-scale Herati pattern. The classic Herati motif consists of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. The Herati motif is widely usedin Iran and believed to represent the small fishes come up just beneath thesurface of the water to swim in the full moon's reflection. It is enclosed withbeige spandrels and a classic border flanked with a triple inner and outerguard band. The use of stone gray, baby blue and pops of peachy-Orange throughout the piece emphasizes its various elements and brings a sense of order to its otherwise monochromatic color palette and repetitive patterns.
