This hand-knotted wool vintage Berber Moroccan rug features a single column of eight concentric diamonds, each filled with a series of expanding lozenges. Though deceptively simple, this classic design is steeped in tradition and significance. The tribal symbols of diamonds within diamonds typically symbolize pregnancy, womanhood, and fertility. The colorful Moroccan rug is enclosed with a border made up of solid color bands representing snakes, which are seen as a male motif. In Moroccan rugs, male motifs often appear on the outer portions of the composition, framing and enclosing the female motifs. This presentation can be seen as symbolizing fertility, as well as protection and the sanctuary of the family.
