Dating to the late 19th century, this charming collection of seven antique table knives and spreaders features beautifully shaped mother-of-pearl handles paired with silver-plated blades. The handles are particularly lovely, displaying natural variations in color and iridescence and distinctive sculpted detailing at the terminals.
The group includes five larger pieces measuring approximately 6.75" long and two slightly smaller pieces measuring approximately 6.5" long. The broad, rounded blades are not sharpened like traditional fruit knives and would be well suited for butter, soft cheeses, preserves and other spreads. The blades bear EPNS markings, indicating electroplated nickel silver, along with an unidentified pictorial maker's mark, common for antique Sheffield pieces.
A beautiful surviving group of Victorian tableware with wonderful decorative appeal, equally lovely for entertaining or displayed as part of a collection of antique silver and mother-of-pearl.
