First edition lithograph from "Derierre Le Miroir" No. 105-106, published in 1958. This piece is in excellent condition! Light handling, no foxing. Text on the verso.
Raoul Ubac was a (German born) French painter, sculptor, photographer, and engraver. He had various and irregular artistic training and traveled in Europe between 1928 and 1934. He briefly attended the Sorbonne to study literature before moving onto the Art Academy of Montparnasse, where he first encountered Surrealism. Ubac worked mostly on photography between 1934 and 1942, embraced Surrealism in Paris and took photos for the magazine Minotaure.
The long running French Art Magazine "Derriere le Miroir" was published from 1946 until 1982 (253 issues). Published and edited by Aime Maeght, the French art dealer featured artists exhibited in his gallery, including: Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Henri Matisse, and Vassily Kandinsky.
