This Frank Stella " Paintings 1958 - 1965 : A Catalogue Raisonne " rare vintage first edition lithograph print iconic landmark volume extra large hardcover art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The landmark volume hardcover book with red linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Stewart, Tabori, & Chang Inc. New York City. Printed and bound in Japan in 1986 by Dai Nippon Ltd. Co. It features a monograph survey of the Modernist artworks of the artist Frank Stella, with accompanied compelling text authored by Lawrence Rubin, with an introduction by Robert Rosenblum.
Frank Stella ( B. 1936 ) is an American painter, sculptor and printmaker noted for his work in the areas of Minimalism and Post-Painterly Abstraction. Working since the 1950's, Stella has created a Modernist style Abstraction and singular creative voice that is unique unto himself. He is heralded for creating Abstract paintings that bear no pictorial illusions of psychological or metaphysical references in Twentieth Century Art. Artworks by Stella are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This definitive iconic volume brings together the landmark paintings of one of America's foremost living artists. Compiled by Lawrence Rubin, this Catalogue Raisonne records all 263 paintings of the early period, plus 11 student works never exhibited or published before. Robert Rosenblum introduces the book, explaining and illustrating the dialogue that Stella has always maintained with art history and with other important artists.
Like Picasso, Stella constantly renews his painting with fresh ideas, building on past work, never repeating himself. In his commitment to Abstract Nonrepresentational Art he passionately developed a highly individual Abstract language.
This remarkable book reproduces in color and 130 in black-and -white duotone. In addition, there are 14 color details of paintings, one reproduction on a multi-page center fold-out, and six photos of Stella's early years.
The rare out of print 1st edition extra large format hardcover art book measures 11 1/2" W X 11 3/8" D X 1 1/2" D, with 280 pages. It is printed on premium paper stock featuring 285 lithograph print illustrations, guide to the catalogue, biographical notes, exhibitions list, bibliography, and checklist of paintings.
