The upper book portion is also quite large with three adjustable shelves to accommodate larger size books if desired or large decorative porcelain pieces. The glass doors have traditional astragals with a strip of brass trim on the door. The lower portion consists of the slant front of the desk compartment and four graduated cock beaded drawers below and all resting on a traditional English bracket foot. The brass hardware is original and has been polished. The desk writing surface folds down and rests on a wood pullout on each side above the drawers. The writing surface is covered in a green leather. The interior consists of a cupboard door with intricate light wood inlay. There are six drawers on each side with gothic shaped fronts over six open storage areas for paper and desk items. Most unusual sized quality bookcase and detail. Sheraton period is 1790-1805. There is a two inch cornice on each side making the cornice width 52.5. See less
